Blurb: Kayel Cleary is a phone sex operator. All she wants to do is get through law school, and if that means late-night phone calls with men who think she’s something she’s not, then so be it.
That is, until one of her long-time clients is murdered – and she hears it all.
Lathan only wants one thing: a seat on the vampire council. He’s worked his entire unnatural life for this moment, only to have it fall apart when his biggest supporter ends up dead. Now, Lathan has to find and work with the only witness. And she happens to be a phone sex operator.
Thrust into a world she never knew existed, Kayel must help Lathan find the murderer and stop the impending war, all while fighting her attraction for the undead man she loves to hate. If she can’t learn their ways and figure out who killed Marco, then she may lose more than just her life … She may spark a war that would spell disaster for vampires and humans alike.

I was given an e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

4 STARS

This was a 1-day read for me. Once Lachlan entered the scene, I couldn't put my Kindle down. I just loved him so much.

Kayel was kind of annoying. She doesn't like cuss words and a lot of her substitutions were just stupid.

"I don't cuss. Cussing shows lack of creativity."

Holy Hannah! Oh holy French fries! Good grapefruit! Oh granny jockey!

I mean, what? It was like the author would just flip open a dictionary, close her eyes, and go with whichever word she pointed at.

Vampire Society  was interesting. Vampires have "helpers" and they have total control over their lives. These helpers prefer to be called "fellowship" but can also be referred to as enslaved. There's a council made up of naturally born vampires. Lachlan, a made/turned vampire, is trying to get a seat on the council to -hopefully- prevent a civil war that has been brewing. Made vampires vastly outnumber born vampires, yet there are tons of oppressive laws to limit made vampires' rights. Lachlan is hoping to change that as diplomatically as he can. Marco, the vampire who Kayel heard being killed, was a born vampire with a lot of influence who supported Lachlan's ambitions. This is why he was murdered and why Lachlan needs Kayel.

I enjoyed the romance between Lachlan and Kayel - mainly because of Lachlan, because - well- Lachlan.

"You make me break all the rules, Kayel. You make me wish I were alive so that I could feel my heart beating in response to just seeing you."

"I wanted to love her like I wanted to will my heart to beat."

"For once in my long life I saw someone, I held someone, I needed someone more than myself."

Towards the end, a couple of things happened that I kind of expected, and the ending was a little convenient but satisfying all the same. Hotline to Hell was enjoyable and a good read to pass the time while I have been recovering from my surgery.

Emily Cyr is a stay-at-home mom turned writer. She holds a degree in middle grades education with certification in English and social science. She has always had a love of all things paranormal and fantasy, but it wasn’t until Emily’s husband said the words, “Why not?” that she considered putting her thoughts and ideas into the book, The Lightning Prophecy. This trilogy was just the start for Emily. It seemed to open a creative door that had been locked.
Emily has always been an avid reader. Through reading came her love of writing. The more she read, the more she knew she wanted to create her own world. Many of her first works were fan fiction.
Emily and her family currently reside in San Antonio, Texas. She has an incredibly supportive husband, who is also an officer in the United States Air Force. They have three sons, ages 6, 5, and 2. Somehow, even with the demands of being a parent to three little boys, she finds time to escape to her fantasies and write them down.
Currently, Emily has two urban fantasy series out, but stay tuned via her web-site, www.EmilyCyr.com, for more!
