Will an apple a day…

Keep love at bay?

For Cass Gentry, coming home to Lake Miniagua, teenage half sister in tow, is bittersweet. But her half of the orchard she inherited awaits, and so does a fresh face—Luke Rossiter, her new business partner. Even though they butt heads in business, they share one key piece of common ground: refusing to ever fall in love again. But as their lives get bigger, that stance doesn’t feel like enough…

Cass’s & Luke’s Tips on Running an Orchard

Thank you so much for having me here today!

Cass Gentry writes a cozy mystery series and has spent most of her adult life in California. Although she played volleyball in high school, that was twenty years ago. She’s not a country girl—much less an outdoorsy one, but when her mother dies, Cass inherits half of an apple orchard on Lake Miniagua, Indiana.

Luke Rossiter is a structural engineer. He bought a fixer-upper house on Lake Miniagua and—as an investment for his retirement days—bought half of an apple orchard. He lost heart when his wife died, but he’s happy enough. He plays guitar and works on his house. When his job disappeared do to a plant closing, he took over management of the orchard.

They liked each other from the start, which was encouraging. But then they made a few discoveries along the way.

Luke thought Cass might like to sell her half of the orchard to him. He was wrong.

Cass thought a coffee shop on the premises would be a great idea. Luke didn’t.

When Cass’s Aunt Zoey, the former owner of Luke’s half of the property, suggested a fall festival at the orchard, he said it was too late and would probably fail. Cass agreed with her aunt and didn’t back down. They were right.

People think it’s funny when someone who’s afraid of heights buys 60 acres of apple trees. Luke didn’t think it was funny at all.

Cass wanted to see if she could still climb a tree. She could. Luke didn’t think that was especially funny, either.

There are some things—like not keeping secrets—that work as well in relationships as they do in business.

That last one? It’s a biggie.

I love Cass and Luke. Nice to Come Home To is my third Heartwarming book to take place on Lake Miniagua. I hope you enjoy going along with them while they make their discoveries about running an orchard—and about each other.

About the Author

Liz Flaherty was a little nervous about retiring from her day job, but making quilts, more family time, traveling at the mere mention of “why don’t we go...” and becoming a Harlequin Heartwarming author have made the past years more fun and exciting than she could ever have imagined.
